You’re probably not going to read this...

We’re living in a world where young adults do not know the difference between your and you’re. Where “would of” is a commonly used combination of words. So I would not be surprised if this article was never read, I mean it is delivered in the poor form of writing, not through stimulating videos, with jump cuts every second. I believe the jump cuts have been reduced following the reduction of attention span in humans.

Software vs Drugs

I read something interesting today, I’ll quote it: “Only two organisations call their customers ‘users’ illegal drugs & software “. Instagram calls you a drug addi…, I mean a user? Wow shocker isn’t it? We are aware in some sense of the detrimental effects that these platforms have on us but we continue to consume mindlessly. We feel the effects of not having scrolled for a while, the punishment of boredom, yet we continue to lie awake in the face of a blue screen.

Goodbye depth

I expect this article to be skimmed through, not to be thoroughly read or deeply thought about. I expect this because we live in a world that seems to be lacking depth, and we are fueled by temporary feelings. Every few seconds is a chance to embody a new emotion, using embody loosely here. We don’t hang on to ideas for too long; we tag (touch and go) short-lived triggers.

A thoughtless world

You might have read this, but have you understood it? Have you grasped it? Have you thought about opposing views? That maybe, temporary feelings are good, that being shallow could be a benefit. That moving thoughtlessly and mindlessly through the world is okay. Maybe the blue screen is not the problem, and we are? Maybe these systems are imagined, and we still have rule over our emotions, thoughts and reactions? Reactions, that’s what we do a lot lately.

The infosphere and the illusion of connection

Or maybe you read this, felt inspired by the audacity to think, to think about the current state of our mind and the digital world. Maybe all that I have written here means nothing to me, maybe I will crawl away into the deep dark depths of short videos, lost in something that feels like meaning but is just an illusion. An illusion of connection, closeness and understanding. An illusion of acceptance that blurs the lines between reality and thoughts. Maybe you read this and you are enraged. How could I sit and type this out? Social media is good for bringing people together and sharing information, for finding quick links to the best restaurant near you. But even moderation is to be done in moderation, right?
