What happens when you let someone else think for you?

Is it A. you get to relax your tired mind, or B. they control you?

Is it A. you get to relax your tired mind, or B. they control you?

Saying “They” sounds very conspiracy theory coded. But I haven’t heard my own thoughts since Titkotk came out. Is that a bit of a stretch, or is it something we all relate to? Okay, maybe I haven’t heard my own thoughts since 2023, or that was the pitfall of all human thought. In 2023, AI was making an appearance.

Inspiration vs the loss of independent thinking

But let’s think about it for a second, we are losing our self-reliance and ability to make independent decisions. The search is “Outfit inspo”, “date idea”. Sometimes, we are not even aware that we have given away our human agency; we are not even aware when we have given someone else the reins to make choices for us. It feels like research, but is it really?

“Prompt” response

Let’s not mention giving a whole private conversation to AI so that it can give us a response that we can just copy and paste. I am sure you have also seen those memes about asking ChatGPT to come up with baby names while in the hospital. Our essence is being lost in convenience, in speed. It seems reasoning or just thinking in general has become a difficult task; we are now defined by algorithms.

Picking from what the algorithm thinks is right for you

Think about it, you don’t have to think hard about what to watch on YouTube when the options that best suit you, or best define you, have been laid out before you on a screen, and you just have to pick what sounds more enticing to you.

Seeking reassurance from the outside world

There’s no sense of exploration or inner assessment. We let everything else think for us, from full school assignments to simple everyday decisions. Sometimes we even seek reassurance from others within our circles, even for the smallest choice. It is crazy, isn’t it? We are living in strange times, but we don’t even notice it. It seems like our world is now being built or has already been built to be as mind-numbing as possible.
