Are Software developers being left behind due to A.I?

2022 was the year we were all struck by AI. Who could forget OpenAI blessing us with ChatGPT, such power at our fingertips? But little did we know that it could come at the cost of our jobs, creativity, and, at the very least, our lives, as we knew them. Not even coders were safe.

AI, modern-day magic

“A safe path,” they told you. In the early days of AI, we tried it, we tasted it, and we loved it. From writing prompts to completing tasks with no effort, basically, all we could imagine.

However, a new trend has begun to emerge, which we refer to as the “smell of money.” Investors, businesses, and companies believed that if AI makes tasks easier and quicker, that would boost profits, sales, and production, and replace workers.

AI, the human replacement

And so it began; company after company, we started seeing layoff after layoff. We all thought that the future was companies and employees coexisting. Cashiers were replaced, admins were replaced, customer service jobs were replaced, teachers were replaced, and even your very own tech developers and coders were replaced.

We created it, and it replaced us. Right now, we can only cross our fingers and hope for change. But it seems like there might be some light at the end of the tunnel, as gradually many companies are rethinking this move. Companies like Klarna and Granter are bringing back developers, designers, and humans to the workplace.

AI and humans coexisting

They have realised that both AI and workers can coexist. At least it’s not as dark as we thought after all. Hopefully, this trend continues, and more companies realize the value of human workers alongside AI technology. It’s a step in the right direction towards a more balanced and sustainable future for the workforce. More and more of us get to work again in this digital world.
